Dermaplaning is an exfoliating procedure using a surgical blade to scrape the surface of the skin to remove dead skin cells, dirt, debris, and peach fuzz hair. The benefits are endless as the new, hairless skin appears more even toned and brighter. Keep reading this guide for the down low on dermaplaning.
Cost & Results
Dermaplaning costs between $75-125 depending on your location. The results typically last 3-5 weeks depending on the nature of your skin.
Dermaplaning Candidates
It’s not a great treatment for those with sensitive or acne prone skin. You need a strong skin barrier to tolerate the treatment, so if you have dry skin, or flaking red skin- it’s best to first heal the skin before dermaplaning. It can worsen certain skin conditions or flare them up such as acne, psoriasis, eczema, hives, so be sure to first consult with your dermatologist.
The Treatment
The skin is first cleansed and prepped with alcohol. The treatment is not painful and you will feel gentle friction on the skin as the blade is used to scrape the skin’s surface. A nourishing moisturizer is applied right after the treatment.
Pre & Post-Dermaplaning
If you are on retinoids or exfoliants like glycolic or salicylic acid, you need to let your provider know and stop them a week before. If you have active wounds or skin conditions such as eczema, your skin needs to heal fully before dermaplaning. Avoid direct sun exposure after and avoid make up, retinols, or exfoliants in your skincare regimen for 24 hours after the treatment.
