What is Keratosis Pilaris?
Keratosis Pilaris affects 20% of the population. But what does this term stand for exactly? Essentially, Keratosis Pilaris is a common, harmless skin condition that causes dry, rough patches and tiny bumps, often on the upper arms, thighs, cheeks or buttocks.
Although it is harmless, the appearance of this skin condition often times leads to people wanting it gone. Luckily, there are ways to calm down and reduce the appearance of Keratosis Pilaris.
How to treat it?
1. Exfoliate the skin
Exfoliating gently can help to prevent Keratosis Pilaris. You can use a wet washcloth, just be careful not to scrub the area too aggressively and irritate the skin.
2. Use an AHA or BHA
Using an AHA or BHA exfoliant helps to remove any excess build up of dead skin cells. We recommend the GlySal Spray as it has Glycolic and Salicylic Acid, a power duo for getting rid of dead skin cells, unclogging the skin, and treating the build up of Keratin. All of these things lead to the formation of Keratosis Pilaris! Start with using once a day and once your skin adjusts switch to two times a day.
3. Apply a soothing cream to calm inflammation
Chemical exfoliants can often leave the skin feeling a bit dry, so we definitely recommend applying a soothing and moisturizing cream afterwards. Our favorite is the Soothe HC, a Hydrocortisone 1% cream formulated with Aloe Vera. This helps to not only soothe any redness or irritation, but also moisturize and calm the area. You can apply this 3-4 times a day as needed.
If you are looking for a system to help get rid of your Keratosis Pilaris, we are now carrying a Keratosis Pilaris Bundle, where you can purchase your chemical exfoliant and soothing cream in one! Hopefully you learned a little more about this skin condition and can kick its butt with with this dynamic duo of a bundle.
