One of our most commonly asked questions is: “Can I use this while pregnant?” Pregnant and nursing women want to know what skincare products are safe to use and which are not.
First and foremost, we encourage you to check with your OB/GYN or general physician for their recommendations on ingredients to use and to avoid, and please take note that the content of this page is for educational and informational purposes and does not constitute formal medical advice.
Here are some general guidelines as they pertain to AziMD Skincare products.
For pregnant or nursing women, ingredients to avoid would be:
- High Dose Salicylic acid
- Phthalates
- Formaldehyde
- Retinol
- Hydroquinone
Salicylic acid, retinols, retin-A, and hydroquinone work at a deep level of the skin so they could possibly enter the bloodstream. There is not enough clinical evidence to show that these effects do NOT harm an unborn child, (as it is unethical to perform experiments on pregnant women) it is better to hold off on these ingredients to ensure that no side effects will occur.
AziMD Products to avoid while pregnant or nursing that include these ingredients include:
- Clarify Pads
- DermaBright Pads with Hydroquinone (DermaBright with 0% Hydroquinone are safe for pregnancy)
- Lift and Renew
- EyeGlow PM
- Glysal Body Spray
Always check with your OB/GYN if you have any questions.
If you are pregnant or nursing, these AziMD Skincare products are great options to use:
- The Sensitive Skin kit is a fantastic option for an effective yet pregnancy safe skincare regimen
- For discoloration during pregnancy, DermaBright Pads with 0% Hydroquinone are acceptable
- IllumiC Classic is also a great option to help combat melasma and dark spots
